A Washington state church, Cedar Park Assembly of God, lost its bid to exclude abortion coverage from its employee health insurance plans after a Ninth Circuit panel ruled the state's Parity Act and conscience statute do not coerce the church into providing abortion coverage. The court found that abortion-free health plans are available and that the laws are neutral and generally applicable, upholding Washington's requirement that health plans covering maternity care must also cover abortion services.
